I believe it stands for “Scoring Shots” – ie, the number of shots from a given batter which yielded a run.

If anyone thinks of another one, please leave a note in the comment box below.Īh, I managed to find some FOX scorecards on their Australian website.

These are all the abbreviations I know of that are used reoccuringly enough.

  • PR penalty runs, awarded for minor infractions, the most common being the ball coming into contact with a fielder’s helmet while it is on the field of play but not being worn.
  • Individual fielding positions (like “Short Square Leg”) are nearly always written out, though sometimes obvious contractions are used (like “Sh Sq Leg” or “3rd m.” for third man.
  • 50 fifties scored (including centuries, ie every innings total fifty or greater).
  • * applied to a score to indicate an innings total made not out, ie 1 34* = 134 not out.
  • SS scoring shots (number of shots from a batsman which yielded runs).
  • RR run rate (runs + extras accumulated per over in the course of an innings ie total runs divided by overs bowled).
  • SR strike rate (runs made per 100 balls).
  • AV / AVE average (runs made per wicket).
  • Occasionally, “strike rate” and “run rate” and their associated abbreviations are used interchangeably
  • BBM best bowling in a match (over both innings of a test).
  • BB best bowling, noted in terms of number of wickets taken and number of runs allowed, ie 5 / 40 five wickets for forty runs allowed.
  • 10W number of times this bowler has taken ten wickets in a match (over both innings of a test).
  • 5W number of times this bowler has taken five wickets in an innings.
  • SR strike rate (balls bowled per wicket taken).
  • AV average (runs allowed per wicket taken).
  • #CRICKET SCORING RUNS PLUS#

  • E economy (runs plus extras allowed per over).
  • CH / SLC left armed wrist spinner (ch = chinaman).
  • SLA left armed finger spinner (sla = slow left arm).
  • LB right armed wrist spinner (lb = leg break).
  • OB right armed finger spinner (ob = off break).
  • Those who distinguish these are, in my opinion, splitting hairs. On some player profiles you will see the construction RMF or LMF, which signifies the same thing as RFM and LFM.
  • ct and b or c and b caught and bowled (by the same member of the fielding side) the abbreviations + and & are often substituted for “and”.
  • Types of dismissal are usually noted in lowercase.
